Carers Cost Cutting Guide – Energy Tips
- If you have a thermostat – turn it down
- Watch out for ‘electricity vampires’! These are electrical items that use up electricity unnecessarily. These include:
- Chargers not connected to a device
- Leaving appliances on standby
- The bigger the TV, the more electricity consumed
- Plug-in air fresheners
- Bleed your radiators or make sure this is done during any annual service
- Smart meters are a great way to gauge how much energy you are using each day
- Hot water bottles, heated blankets, and ‘Oodies’ are good alternatives to putting the heating on
- Only boil the kettle when needed, or boil it once and fill a flask to last you the day
- No need to boil the kettle for cooking water – put water in a pot on the hob and cover it with a lid which will make the water boil quicker!
- Smart plugs will turn off all devices plugged into one switch
- Where possible, turn off devices at the wall at night
- Shorter showers will save water and energy
- Switch off lights when they are not in use
- Slow cookers and air fryers will consume less electricity and gas
